After the acquisition of Karstadt Warenhaus in August 2014, the long-standing company with over 135 years of history was completely restructured and reorganised and is now on the right track toward definite recovery. Almost three years after the beginning of this restructuring, SIGNA has achieved clear successes on the earnings side: The operating result for 2015/2016 is 50 million EUR, four times as much as in 2014/2015. In the fiscal year 2016/17, for the first time in twelve years, Karstadt achieved an annual surplus of 1.4 million EUR.

Claudia Reinery, born 1966, has been working as the COO of the Karstadt department store since September 1, 2017. In this function, Mrs. Reinery is responsible for the areas purchase, sales and marketing. Claudia Reinery knows the department store business very well: After long-standing activities in various management positions at Karstadt in purchase, sales and marketing, she changed over to Galeria Kaufhof GmbH in 2009 as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. Most recently, Mrs. Reinery has successfully proven her well-founded knowledge and experience in the management of challenging retail strategies and change processes within the scope of the restructuring of the beauty specialist Douglas as a member of the management of the Douglas Group and CEO of Douglas Deutschland GmbH.

Core of Karstadt’s concept is to implement a significant restructuring programme aimed at readdressing and regaining its core clients of “best agers” – cross shoppers and premiumcross-shoppers.

Taking this target group into account, Karstadt will form clusters of stores centred on specific locations and focus on two distinct formats: event shopping and shopping for day-to-day needs. This concept, combined with the company’s excellent management team and the necessary financial backing from SIGNA, will secure a sustainable, bright future for Karstadt.
