The number one tennis multi-channel retailer in Europe

At the end of 2016, SIGNA Retail acquired a 78% share in the number one tennis multi-channel retailer in Europe, Tennis-Point, in order to tap even more successfully into the growth potential in this area. The company’s founders continued to hold the remaining shares. For SIGNA Retail, this acquisition, after internetstores, dress-for-less and OUTFITTER was the fourth in 2016 and represented the next step in becoming a multi-channel provider and the clear number one in sports product retailing in Germany.

Tennis-Point will retain its independence as another pillar of the SIGNA Sports Group and the management team of the company will remain on board. The two founders, Christian Miele (CEO) and Thomas Welle (COO), as well as Christian Singer (General Manager International) direct the fate of the company, which was founded in 1999 in Herzebrock-Clarholz.

With more than 12,000 tennis and running products from more than 100 different sports, private and exclusive brands, Tennis-Point has a very extensive range of products, which are marketed in its 19 online shops and 12 branches in very attractive locations in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). The first online shop was launched in 2008 on the occasion of the Australian Open

Now there are online shops in 10 different languages. A fully automated logistics system (Autostore) allows a highly efficient storage and delivery of goods in the 8,000 m² large warehouse. Tennis-Point employs about 200 people and the headquarters are in Herzebrock Clarholz (Nordrhein-Westfalen).

Tennis-Point complements SIGNA’s sports retail portfolio with its specialisation in tennis and jogging products. As a competitive multi-channel provider in the specialised tennis market, Tennis-Point is a strategically well-placed expansion for Karstadt Sports, OUTFITTER, Probikeshop and internetstores. By combining the various online and brick-and-mortar competencies and channels, both partners are committed to an accelerated cross-channel and multi-channel development.
