The number one tennis multi-channel retailer in Europe

At the end of 2016, SIGNA Retail acquired a 78% share in the number one tennis multi-channel retailer in Europe, Tennis-Point, in order to tap even more successfully into the growth potential in this area. The company’s founders continued to hold the remaining shares. For SIGNA Retail, this acquisition, after internetstores, dress-for-less and OUTFITTER was the fourth in 2016 and represented the next step in becoming a multi-channel provider and the clear number one in sports product retailing in Germany.

Christian Miele, born in 1975, is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Tennis-Point. He is in charge of the divisions Purchasing, Relationship Management as well as Sales and Stores. Before he founded Tennis-Point together with Thomas Welle in 1999 he worked for Marc Aurel. Mr. Miele is professional licensed tennis trainer and winner of the German tennis team championship in 2012 and 2013.

Thomas Welle, born in 1975, is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Tennis-Point. He is in charge of the divions Operations, HR, Logistics and Legal. Before he founded Tennis-Point together with Christian Miele in 1999 he worked for Bertelsmann. Mr. Welle is professional licensed tennis trainer.

Christian Singer

Christian Singer

Christian Singer, born in 1974, is a member of the company management and General Manager International of Tennis-Point. Mr. Singer started his career in the European and international tennis sector after successfully completing his sport management studies in the United States, for which he received a tennis scholarship. He has a good 20 years of experience in the sector, 14 of which he spent with Amer Sports Europe at the Wilson Headquarters for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), in a variety of positions (Marketing Management, Product Management). From 2004 to 2014, Mr. Singer had overall responsibility for Wilson Racket & Team Sports EMEA. At the beginning of 2014, Mr. Singer then moved to Sports Warehouse GmbH as General Manager, and then took on the position of Managing Director.

The takeover brought the international line-up of Tennis-Point and its strong expertise in online and brick-and-mortar retailing together with the comprehensive retail expertise of SIGNA Retail. Tennis-Point will retain its independence as another pillar of the SIGNA Sports Group and the management team of the company will remain on board. The two founders, Christian Miele (CEO) and Thomas Welle (COO), as well as Christian Singer (General Manager International) direct the fate of the company, which was founded in 1999 in Herzebrock-Clarholz.

With more than 12,000 tennis and running products from more than 100 different sports, private and exclusive brands, Tennis-Point has a very extensive range of products, which are marketed in its 19 online shops and 12 branches in very attractive locations in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). The first online shop was launched in 2008 on the occasion of the Australian Open

Now there are online shops in 10 different languages. A fully automated logistics system (Autostore) allows a highly efficient storage and delivery of goods in the 8,000 m² large warehouse. Tennis-Point employs about 200 people and the headquarters are in Herzebrock Clarholz (Nordrhein-Westfalen).

Tennis-Point complements SIGNA’s sports retail portfolio with its specialisation in tennis and jogging products. As a competitive multi-channel provider in the specialised tennis market, Tennis-Point is a strategically well-placed expansion for Karstadt Sports, OUTFITTER, Probikeshop and internetstores. By combining the various online and brick-and-mortar competencies and channels, both partners are committed to an accelerated cross-channel and multi-channel development.
